1) Executive Summary
ABERASH WERKINEH MODERN DAIRY FARM is one of the private dairy farm established in Awassa city /town and has no branches in different regions in Ethiopia. Due to the government free economic policy which has created a conducive environment for the development of agriculture’s farm and support in different conditions, ABERASH WERKINEH MODERN DAIRY FARM has become one of the strongest private dairy farms in Awassa.
The conducive atmosphere created by the government, to allow private higher business/farm to play their role in the expansion and upgrading of small micro –organization in the last two decades indicates the significance of investing on agricultural bases like livestock, poultry farm dairy farm and beef cattle as well as the existence of the demand for further expansion to build new higher business/production center in the country
In line with this
ABERASH WERKINEH MODERN DAIRY FARM envisions to be a leading private farm production center in Dairy production, research and community service in southern Ethiopia.
In order for ABERASH WERKINEH MODERN DAIRY FARM to realize its vision and accomplish its mission , a number of strategic issues which require strategic decisions have been identified and strategies that enable solve these issues are also set. Accordingly, the strategies of Dairy farm for the next three years are categorized in six main focal areas:
1. Improving the performance of each and every dairy farm
2. Strengthen and raising quality of products (milk, meat and skin) of farm in all areas
3. introducing and practicing experiencing all working system in all farm
4. Improving worker and customer services in all aspect
5. Strengthen the relationship and consulting capacity in different farm area like dairy farm in Ethiopia and Africa.
It is anticipated that the total livestock population which is 56 in the August 17, 2013, should then reach 150 by August 2014/15 in all department in the palling period.
Analysis of the strengths, weakness , Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) revealed , on top of some strength, that there are weakness such as shortage of worker staff , lack of Organized Documents concerning the farm and limited ———————-. To curb these and other problems, the farm developed THE FOLLOWING 3 main Goals with ___specific objectives

Objectives of the ABERASH WERKINEH MODERN DAIRY FARM
a) Attract and Support a more diverse customer with good price and service
b) Support and enhance effective experience to visitors
c) Creating variety in the diet of human being
d) Insuring the safety of the customers by supplying standardized product
e) To increase employment as government policy
f) Strengthen and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the farm
g) Enhance internal capacity for worker services
h) Enhance community services, partnerships, and client service

A strategic action / implementation plan has been drafted to meet successfully the goals and objectives of the ABERASH WERKINEH MODERN DAIRY FARM . The plan clearly reveals the specific activities that will be carried out by the respective responsible bodies in different schedules as well as the required budget for implementation of these activities. To increase the number of qualified staff, development scheme has been drafted. In addition, the number of qualified staff to be employed from the market has also been determined.
Monitoring and Evaluation of the strategic plan is mainly the responsibility of the management of ABERASH WERKINEH MODERN DAIRY FARM and the staff .It is recommended that the planning unit shall be designated to monitor and evaluate the entire implementation processes of the plan.
1.2 The Strategic Plan Process
The present strategic plan document of ABERASH WERKINEH MODERN DAIRY FARM has been drafted by a strategic planning team in cooperation with a consulting formed by the top management of the ABERASH WERKINEH MODERN DAIRY FARM. The planning Team included members of the managing Team and higher officials of the farm center representatives have also been forwarding their views for the development of strategic plan of the farm. Before designing the document, the team attended a strategic planning and management workshop organized by the farm center, to go through the process, the team has adopted a general framework and a road map.
1.3) The Need For The Strategic Plan
A strategic plan is a means by which an organization / farm can improve its performance and stimulate forward thinking and clarify future direction. It enables the Organization to be prepared for fast changing environment and prioritize and effective utilization of resources. Besides, strategic plan allows the management to review the Farm’s past experience overcoming its recalcitrant weakness, building up on areas of strength, and exploiting the favorable changes in performance /business at all levels in ways that optimally serve the distinctive mission of the farm.
